Etching can be used to create some spectacular metalwork in copper, brass, aluminum or steel. Using the same basic techniques, the results are limited by imagination and the artists ability to get the required etching chemicals. Here's some information not in the Etching guide: The the 'laser printer toner-transfer' method described for transferring the image to the metal is one commonly used. I've started using Staples brand gloss Basic Photo Paper and have been getting better results than using glossy magazine paper. However, most of the time I cut stencils out of acetate (projector) sheets, then airbrush on black ABA body paint as a resist. The body paint cleans off with rubbing alcohol and the stencil can be re-used around 100 times. Very easy. Very very good results. |
